Our values and the choice of materials at Chardon Paris

In the age of transparency at all costs, it is paradoxically sometimes difficult to sort through all the information available to form an opinion. How can we ensure that the choice of materials meets transparency requirements? Should the words "made in China" be avoided? On the contrary, is "made in France" an authentic concept? Beyond the philosophical debates, we wanted to share our values here, which are the pillars of our manufacturing process.
At Chardon Paris, we make sure that at each stage of the manufacturing process, our requirements are respected, so that they guarantee the quality of each of our objects.

For the sourcing of materials: requirement of traceability and transparency

Chardon's raw materials come from France. The leathers come from tanneries in the east and south-west of France. We source directly from these large and reputable tanneries, but also fromAdapta, an agency that finds top-of-the-range leathers for designers that are lying dormant in the stocks of luxury houses and associated suppliers. Because of their origin, we ensure that all skins are traceable and that the tanning processes respect environmental legislation.

Accessories (collar buttons, press studs, snap rings, etc.) are sourced in France. In some cases, for example for zips, the best manufacturers are not French (Riri is Italian, YKK is Japanese).

For manufacturing: demand for know-how and reasonable costs

Our products are designed and developed in France, in our Paris offices.

Concerning the way, we work with luxury leather goods workshops that work for the most famous houses. These workshops are located in Paris (for example, for prototyping), in France or in the Indian Ocean. Our requirement is to have the best quality at a reasonable cost. In some cases, we will favour the know-how of a workshop located abroad, which is simply better because these workshops are trained and have been working for many years with leading clients. In other cases, we will favour a French workshop for its proximity and its ability to produce small series. In all cases, we always visit (and spend time there!) the workshops where our objects are made, to ensure that working conditions and safety rules are respected, but also that our suppliers are expert. Indeed, leather goods is a profession that relies on experience and know-how, which can only be measured by observing the manufacturing process and by exchanging with those who "make" it!

The metal cards of the Label are made and machined in France in a workshop that works for the major players in the aeronautics industry.

Finally, all our packaging is designed and produced in France.
