CONSTANCE LACORNE

Wild life

Constance Lacorne has created Musca Paris, a tattooed, inspired and eco-responsible clothing brand.

Caught by a beautiful colourful pattern on a Musca Paris sweatshirt, Bar-Da wanted to know who was behind these inventive and refined creations, the kind that make a real difference in our Parisian outfits. For Constance, the brand's creator, who designs all the patterns according to her inspiration, life is a jungle. Her t-shirts and sweatshirts reflect her animal imagination, with colourful fish or a toucan and parrots embroidered on them. Very concerned by the Fashion Revolution movement, the designer has chosen to use eco-responsible manufacturing processes and materials for the comfort of body and mind! For Bar-da, she emptied her bag from the terrace of a Parisian café.

Who are you? I am Constance Lacorne, artistic director and founder of theatelier Licorne. I started creating Musca a year ago because I wanted to take my ideas to the limit, from design to production, in order to give life to this brand as I imagined it. What interests me in fashion is above all the bodies. What shows through the choices we make, and the way the body inhabits or not the garment, the movement and the character that emerge from it. For the designs of the t-shirts and sweatshirts I make, I take my inspiration directly from nature. Because the colours and harmony are still there and the behaviour of people is often similar to that of animals. The fly in Musca's logo I chose thinking of the fly, the fly that is the artifice, that makes up and hides the imperfections, the fly that is sometimes represented in vanities, the fly that has a precise, complex shape, as if drawn by a virtuoso designer.

I wanted to create a committed brand. Cotton is a non-GMO fibre, its production uses neither fertilisers nor pesticides. It is processed and dyed without prohibited toxic substances. We also have the Fair Wear Foundation label, which ensures compliance with the social standards of the World Labour Organisation, and the GOTS label, which is the strictest certification for textiles made from organic fibres.

What bag(s) do you use on a daily basis? I have a small black Chanel bag with a quilted effect, which has a tendency to become a laptop holder, as its capacity is so limited. Next to it, I always have a canvas bag, which is very practical.

What do you take with you? So in my little bag I have my laptop, my headphones and my wallet. In my tote bag, there's a book I've been carrying around for months, a (very large) sketchbook, my computer and my charger.

What items do you always carry in your bag (your must-haves)? ALWAYS my phone (and its unicorn case so I don't lose it), my wallet and my keys.

How do you find your keys? Either I can't find them. Or I use my key ring, which is a big, ugly elephant plush that I can't miss. In that case, I find them right away!

An anecdote (a (mis)adventure with your bag...)? My bag is too often open, I can be distracted. One day, when I was still a trainee, I was walking home from the office while on the phone with my big bag slung over my shoulder. I felt a gesture behind my back and immediately saw a man quietly walking past me with my wallet in his hand. Very spontaneously, I said to him gently "oh no, that's not very nice. I really need it too! ». The man was visibly confused, he brought it back to me straight away! Just goes to show that kindness can sometimes disarm people!

What do you take with you on holiday? Always my small, impractical bag. And a suitcase half filled with things I won't wear and the other half filled with old clothes I love and have had for ages... I also have a Liérac cream and a make-up remover, and always a little concealer, just in case...

Do you ever go out after work, how do you carry your bag? I work either from home or from a co-working office. I always go home to drop off my bag with my computer to "reschedule", unless it's for a glass of white wine downstairs in the office!

How do you reconcile your professional and personal life in your bag? Everything is mixed up! It's a big mess that I find myself in. You can find my notebook as well as a nappy or a change of underwear from one of my children!

Do Parisian women have a specific relationship with their bags? Yes, certainly, because I would say that in Paris the bag is certainly more of a trophy than elsewhere.

Your self-portrait? Here's what comes to mind: I would be a turtle, (I don't know why), a battered book, a piece of blue, talking on a bench, anger, the smell of my children, the desire to be against a neck, a 2B pencil, crumpled papers
